Has anyone else ever had bird mites?

My family has had birds living in the vent above our kitchen stove for quite some time, but recently we noticed the cheeping of what can only be baby birds. That isn't what concerns me. What does is the itsy bitsy spider looking creatures that are now showing up all over our stove. My family and I did a little research on what exactly they are. We found out that they're bird mites. I was just wondering if anyone out there has had a similar experience and what measures need to be taken to get rid of these pets (besides getting rid of the nest, which will be taken care of tomorrow).
